FAQ

  • How does the process work?
Please refer to the pricing and process page which gives a step by step explanation of how to order from Bio-Urns Pets.
  • How do I order from Bio-Urns Pets?
We ask that you complete our contact form. Upon receipt of your request we will send you an email with our invoice containing our banking details. Upon receipt of payment, we will start the process of acquiring the cremation ashes from you.
  • What if multiple members of the family want their own Bio-Urn from the cremation ashes?
We utilise only a portion of the cremation ashes to cultivate a single Bio-Urn, allowing for the creation of multiple Bio-Urns from the same set of ashes. Additionally, we provide reduced prices for orders of more than one Bio-Urn. The specific discount offered will be conveyed to you via email once we receive your order form. It will be contingent on various factors related to your order, including the quantity of Bio-Urns requested, the distance to the delivery location, and whether all the Bio-Urns can be delivered to a single address or if they can be collected.
  • What if one family member wants a Bio-Urn and another family member wants to scatter the cremation ashes in a traditional manner?
Since we use only a portion of the cremation ashes for the Bio-Urn, there should be a sufficient amount of ashes remaining for other family members that may have had a close attachment to the pet.
  • How much ash do I supply you with?
After your payment is received, we will dispatch a plastic test tube to your address. Your task will be to fill this test tube with the ashes and then return it to us at this address: Bio-Urns Ltd, Rouen House, Rouen Road, Norwich, NR1 1RB. • How do I know I'll receive the right Bio-Urn back?
Once we receive your completed order form, we will promptly send you an invoice containing a distinctive order number. This unique order number will be associated with the test tube that will be shipped to your address. After filling the test tube with ashes and returning it to us, the same order number will be linked to the Bio-Urn. • Do I have to water my Bio-Urn?
Our sealed Bio-Urns are self-contained ecosystems, and their design is intended to minimise the need for external watering. When properly set up and maintained, sealed Bio-Urns create a closed environment where water is recycled through a natural process known as the water cycle. Here's how it works: Initial Watering: When the Bio-Urn is first set up, a specific amount of water is added to create a moist environment. This initial watering should be sufficient to establish the water cycle. Each Bio-Urn is monitored for a period of 7 days to ensure that there is no excess water. Evaporation and Condensation: Once the Bio-Urn is sealed, the moisture in the soil and plants will evaporate and create humidity within the container. The moisture then condenses on the walls and lid of the terrarium, forming water droplets. Rain Effect: These water droplets act like rain, falling back onto the plants and soil, effectively watering the terrarium. This natural cycle continues as long as the Bio-Urn remains sealed. Because Bio-Urns are closed environments, you generally do not need to water them as frequently as open terrariums or potted plants. However, it's crucial to monitor your terrarium's moisture levels. If the walls and lid are continually covered in condensation and the soil is consistently soggy, it may indicate overwatering. In contrast, if the soil becomes extremely dry and the plants look wilted, it may need a small amount of additional water. We supply small spray bottles with each Bio-Urn should you need to water them.
  • How do I look after my Bio-Urn?
Here are some general tips for maintaining a sealed Bio-Urn: Plant selection: The plants selected thrive in high humidity and low-light conditions. Do not add additional plants. Monitor Condensation: Check the condensation levels regularly. If condensation is excessive, consider temporarily cracking the lid open to allow excess moisture to escape, wiping down the inside of the glass with paper towel. If condensation is consistently absent, add a small amount of water to the soil by squirting on two sprays with the supplied bottle. Prune and Trim: Prune and trim your plants as needed to control their growth and prevent overcrowding. Keep It Out of Direct Sunlight: It’s best to keep your Bio-Urn out of direct sunlight, and rather place in indirect sunlight or bright, filtered light. This is to avoid excessive heat and condensation. In summary, our Bio-Urns are designed to be relatively self-sustaining, and you should not need to water them frequently. However, they still require monitoring to ensure the right balance of moisture within the closed environment. Adjustments may be necessary over time to maintain the health of the plants and the overall ecosystem.
  • Can I add something sentimental into the Bio-Urn?
Yes and we encourage it. If you wish to include a sentimental item in the Bio-Urn, please ensure that it is of a size that won't overcrowd the space meant for the plants. Additionally, it should be suitable for use in a water-based environment, meaning it should not rust, dissolve, or get damaged when submerged. We are more than willing to offer personalised guidance regarding what can or cannot be added. If you have any uncertainties about an item, it's a good idea to send us a photo of it in advance. Feel free to reach out to us via email at pets@bio-urns.co.uk for assistance. If the item has a high monetary value, we ask that you add it into the Bio-Urn yourself.
  • Can I add lights to the Bio-Urn?
Each Bio Urn we provide includes two wireless lights, approximately the size of marbles, which can be inserted into the Bio-Urn to illuminate it. These lights are easily removable when no longer required. If you retain the small light tag, you can use it to turn the light off. We will demonstrate this process to you upon delivery of the Bio-Urn. However, we kindly request that you exercise caution when opening the Bio-Urn, as each opening allows moisture to escape from the delicate ecosystem within.
